Interim Ministry Refresher

This intensive three-day Interim Ministry Refresher residential program is sponsored by the following Conferences of The United Church of Canada: Alberta and Northwest, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario.

5:00 pm Monday March 5, 2018 to 10:00 am Thursday March 8, 2018

Location: Star of the North Retreat Centre, 3A St Vital Ave., St Albert, Alberta  (20 minutes north of Edmonton).

Applications Closing Date:  The deadline has been extended as there are a few spots still open.

The Purpose of this Program:

The purpose of the Interim Ministry refresher is to update the qualifications of candidates for Interim Ministry and to build a pool of qualified Interim Ministers in The United Church of Canada.

The Event is designed for:

Ministry Personnel who have previously completed the Interim Ministry Training provided by either The United Church of Canada or The Interim Ministry Network and whose qualifications have expired, to be designated in 2018.

Topics to be explored:

Monday March 5th: arrive and settle in, supper at 5:00 pm

Monday evening:  Introduction Intentional Interim Ministry in the United Church Context

Tuesday March 6th: “Packing Tools for the Transitional Journey” (Required reading to be announced.)

Wednesday March 7th: “Navigating the Twists and Turns”  with closing celebration and networking on Wednesday evening.

Thursday March 8th: Breakfast and depart. Alberta and Northwest Conference participants remain for Designation Interviews.

How to apply

Contact your Conference Personnel Minister for information regarding the requirements of your Conference.

Please submit the application form, and on a separate page, responses to the following questions. This information will assist the leadership team in creating a meaningful learning experience for each participant.

  • What year did you take your Interim Ministry Training?
  • Was your training provided by The United Church of Canada or by the Interim Ministry Network.
  • Have you been in an Intentional Interim Ministry Appointment?
  • What year were you in an Intentional Interim Ministry Appointment?

Kindly provide a letter of reference from your Conference Personnel Minister.

Financial Assistance:

Participants attending this event may be eligible for financial assistance with costs. Please contact your Conference Office for information regarding availability of funds. Your Presbytery may also have funds to assist you.

3. A registration deposit of $100.00. Cheque to be made payable to Alberta and Northwest Conference

4. A cheque for$ 500.00 for the remainder of the registration by March 1, 2018, also made payable to Alberta and Northwest Conference.

This is a residential event. Participants must attend the entire event to be eligible for designation. In an intensive atmosphere of learning there will be opportunity to worship, have fun and develop new friends.


Participants must have successfully completed the training for Interim Ministry offered by either the Interim Ministry Network or The United Church of Canada.


This program is recognized by The United Church of Canada and by the Interim Ministry Network as meeting the standards to be re-certified for appointment as an Interim Minister.


This event has both a minimum and a maximum number of participants. Please apply early. Priority is given to Ministry Personnel who plan to accept an appointment as an Intentional Interim Minister in the future.


Ministers completing this refresher will need to be interviewed by their Presbytery and Conference prior to designation.
