ANW Conference sponsors Brueggemann webinarThe ANW Conference’s Evangelism AdHoc Committee’s plans for 2018 include offering a webinar with Dr. Walter Brueggeman in conjunction with the United Church of Canada’s Edge Ministry.

The Conference Evangelism Education AdHoc Committee is encouraging all members of The United Church of Canada to share their faith story. This is part of the focus of the strategy of the committee for 2018.   The committee is seeking to help our members in our congregations to be comfortable to share their story. It is the story that

  • We are not alone, we live in God’s World,
  • We witness to Holy Mystery that is Wholly Love,
  • Evil does – cannot- undermine or overcome the love of God,
  • God has and is working for peace, justice and reconciliation.

It is also the story that:

  • In Jesus God makes all things new,
  • In Jesus’ life, teaching, and self-offering, God empowers us to live in love,
  • The Risen Christ lives today, present to us and the source of our hope.

The strategy for this year includes the hosting of a webinar, encouraging the formation of clusters for learning and the use of social media. The committee has partnered with the EDGE Ministry of the UCC to present a webinar on March 21, 2018 at midday. The webinar will be for one hour and could be easily viewed while persons have lunch. It would be good if for at least one lay leader from each Pastoral Charge and all Ministry Personnel attended. The webinar will be facilitated by Dr. Walter Brueggemann. Dr. Brueggemann is currently William Marcellus McPheeters professor emeritus of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary and is considered as one of the most influential Bible interpreters of our time.   His works include Theology of the Old Testament (1997), The Prophetic Imagination, originally published in 1978, and Message of the Psalms.

The webinar is open to all members of the church in the conference area. It is hoped that at least one congregational leader from every congregation will attend as well as all ministry personnel.  You can register online HERE:

The focus of the work of the committee is on congregations. The plan is one move to provide another “tool” for the toolkit of congregations to faithfully and vibrantly live out God’s mission. Following the webinar if congregations wish to put into practice what they would have heard they will be invited to form clusters for learning. More information will be given soon about the clusters for learning.

Also included in the strategy for the year is to invite members to share their faith story on social media under the hashtag “thisismystory”. During this phase of the strategy members will be invited to share on social media a sentence which summarizes and shares their faith story. For example, “God is good all the time. #sharingmystory” or “Seeking right relations is how I show Jesus’ love. #sharingmystory”

Please stay in tune for more information about the work of the committee.
