The Calgary Pride Parade brought out a great representation from Affirming Faith Communities and Ministries in the Calgary area on Sunday, September 2, 2018.

Calgary Pride YYC Campus Ministry

Faith communities participating in Calgary Pride included McDougall United, St Thomas United, Robert McClure United, Living Spirit United, Symons Valley United, St Davids United, Lakeview United, Knox United, Knox Presbyterian, Deer Park United, St Andrew’s United, Red Deer Lake United, Parkdale United, Calgary Queer Church and Hillhurst United.The United Church’s participation in the parade was coordinated by Kiran McKee, Calgary Queer Church staff person and social worker at Deer Park Church.

The new ministry Affirming Connections with Director Pam Rocker also participated in Pride. Affirming Connections. Affirming Connections was created to strengthen and amplify the affirming voice and actions of fully inclusive faith and spiritual communities in Calgary. Also participating in Pride for the first time was YYC Campus Ministry who is going through the Affirming Process. YYC Campus Ministry is the United and Presbyterian ministry at the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.

Affirming communities of faith are ones that have committed to be inclusive and affirming to individuals and allies in the LGBTQ2S+ Community. They strive to uphold values of genuine hospitality, advocacy for justice and being safe yet brave communities.
