Donations for Fort McMurray

Thank you for your interest in supporting the United Church’s fire recovery efforts in Fort McMurray and surrounding communities.  Here is what your donation will do:

There are many people and organizations working to respond to the immediate needs of evacuees from Fort McMurray and area.

The United Church of Canada will focus on the long terms needs of the people of the communities affected by this catastrophe.

We will be offering recovery assistance through collaboration with our local ministry in Fort McMurray, First Nations leaders, ecumenical partners and community agencies.

Our experience in working with communities affected by the Southern Alberta floods in 2013 illustrated how important it is to provide post traumatic support to individuals, families and front line disaster workers. We anticipate that there will be similar needs following the Fort McMurray disaster and that we will be able to make a meaningful contribution to this work, in addition to supporting the local congregation and small outlying communities.

There is no word yet about whether donations made to church organizations responding to the Fort McMurray disaster will be matched by the Government of Canada or the Province of Alberta.  We will update as information becomes available.
